With our latest project completed it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
This October-November Event & Media Structures were up in Centenary Square, Birmingham helping build the city’s temporary ice rink – one of its main Christmas attractions.
GL Events commissioned us to construct and install the ice-rink’s temporary substructure, along with several temporary access staircases and walkways adjoining the rink.
Because the ground at Centenary Square is uneven we began the 25 m x 25 m substructure build, by laying stepped foundations. Once the stepped foundations were in place, the Event & Media Structures crew began building the temporary substructure above ground level.
We built the ice rink substructure using Layher System Scaffold which is perfect for construcing large, temporary substructures on uneven terrain. For a more in-depth look at how the ice-rink was constructed, check out the recent article by Birmingham Live.
In addition to providing the temporary ice-rink substructure, we also built two external staircases to and from the rink. Along with a 5 m wide entrance ramp with a hand-rail divide, so skaters could enter and leave via separate routes.
The Centenary Square ice-rink is open until the 9th January – giving you plenty of time to get your skates on for the 2021-2022 festive season.
