With over 500,000 visitors a year the Birmingham Hippodrome is one of the UK’s busiest regional theatres, showcasing hundreds of performances from Mama Mia to the Birmingham Royal Ballet.
Built in 1895 the venue was recently renovated and as part of the expansion remit NE Cox Ltd asked us to provide a temporary public access staircase that could support a large footfall from ground level to the first floor.
Mindful of social distancing we designed a temporary public access staircase with a central rail and T confirguration, which enabled theatre goers to keep a safe distance when entering and exiting the venue. We used Layher System Scaffold to build the public access staircase.
Once the staircase was in place we fitted it with carpet, treads and risers and painted the plyboard fascia to keep it looking sleek.
A Layher System public access staircase is perfect for front-of-house venues like the Birmingham Hippodrome. Lightweight and modular it can be constructed to meet even the most demanding specification without compromising safety.
At Event & Media Structures we offer a range of temporary staircases that can be built to any specification and in any location. Whether it’s a Layher System Staircase, tube and fitting, bespoke or integral staircase, we have a temporary structure to meet your needs.
