Royal wedding.

Project Overview

Event & Media Structures was proud to contribute to one of the most memorable occasions of the decade — the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. Our team was tasked with delivering bespoke scaffolding solutions at Buckingham Palace, providing secure camera towers and viewing platforms for international broadcasters and invited guests.

Scope and Challenges

The project demanded precision and discretion. Our temporary structures needed to deliver flawless stability for sensitive broadcast equipment, while respecting the historic setting of central London. Key considerations included:

  • Absolute stability: Camera platforms had to support heavy equipment and crews without the slightest vibration, ensuring uninterrupted live coverage.

  • Working around heritage landmarks: With the Queen Victoria Memorial and Buckingham Palace as the backdrop, designs had to protect the surroundings while providing clear sightlines.

  • Public safety and security: Coordinating with organisers and security teams was essential, given the enormous crowds gathering in the capital.

  • Tight schedules: Every element needed to be installed well in advance, with no margin for error.

Our Approach

Drawing on extensive experience in event scaffolding, we developed a Layher system solution tailored to the event’s unique demands. Our team:

  • Built reinforced towers and platforms engineered for broadcast-grade stability.

  • Positioned structures with pinpoint accuracy to secure the best possible camera angles.

  • Worked in close partnership with contractors, security services, and broadcasters to deliver a smooth installation.

  • Applied finishes and materials chosen to minimise visual impact while ensuring maximum safety and performance.

Outcome

The result was a network of safe, stable, and unobtrusive towers and viewing platforms that enabled seamless coverage of the royal wedding. Millions of people worldwide watched the event through footage captured from our structures, reinforcing our role as a trusted partner for high-profile, globally significant projects.
