Precision Behind the Spotlight

In 2015, Event & Media Structures Ltd was commissioned to deliver a bespoke structural solution at The O2 Arena, London, supporting the arrival of one of music history’s most iconic vehicles, Elvis Presley’s legendary Pink Cadillac.

As part of Elvis at The O2: The Exhibition of His Life, the vehicle had been transported from Graceland to London for public display, marking a rare opportunity for fans to see this piece of rock and roll history up close.

For Event & Media Structures, the project called for careful planning, technical precision, and a practical solution to a unique challenge.

The Brief

The Pink Cadillac needed to be safely moved into the exhibition space inside The O2, requiring a temporary loading structure capable of supporting the vehicle’s transfer while working within the limitations of the venue.

With a high-value classic vehicle and a live exhibition schedule, there was no room for compromise.

The structure needed to provide:

  • Safe and stable vehicle access
  • Controlled load transfer
  • Full support for the installation team
  • Efficient build and dismantle within programme

Our Solution

Using the adaptability of the Layher system, our team designed and constructed a bespoke loading bay and access platform to facilitate the safe movement of the Pink Cadillac into the arena.

The build included:

  • Temporary scaffold loading platform
  • Engineered support structure
  • Safe working access at height
  • Controlled lifting and positioning points
  • Precision-built temporary access for exhibition installation

Every element was designed to support a smooth and secure load-in process while protecting both the vehicle and the venue.

Delivering for Complex Exhibition Environments

Exhibition builds often come with challenges far beyond standard event structures.

This project demonstrated how temporary structural systems can be adapted for specialist installations, whether supporting valuable artefacts, staging complex brand activations, or creating access for unusual load-ins.

The flexibility of Layher allowed the team to create a solution tailored precisely to the brief, proving once again that practical engineering is often what makes ambitious exhibitions possible.

Supporting Iconic Moments Behind the Scenes

While visitors to the exhibition saw the finished result, projects like this highlight the work that happens long before the doors open.

From the first scaffold component to the final positioning of the Pink Cadillac, this was a project built on precision, planning, and trust.

A unique piece of music history, delivered safely into one of the UK’s most iconic venues.
